As well as empty filling stations caused by panic buying, there’s another source of angst for Ruddington’s hard pressed motorists this week – the closure of Flawforth Lane.
Thankfully it’s due to take place only from Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th September – substantially less than a previous three week closure sought last month by Linden Homes in connection with its ‘Blacksmith’s Green’ development. Although the contractor did shut the road for a few hours by mistake, seemingly due to a misunderstanding (top photo courtesy of Ruddington Mums), in the end that work was handled using three-way temporary traffic lights instead. Nevertheless, these still caused considerable delays getting in and out of Ruddington.
This time, a diversion for motorists around the Flawforth Lane closure will be implemented as shown below. (It’s thought pedestrian and cycle access will be maintained).
The above closure should not affect Loughborough Road as badly this time. However, local residents and drivers are being warned to brace themselves for more queues there next month, with further work scheduled at the Mere Way roundabout from mid-October.
Meantime, temporary traffic lights will also be back in use to the north of the village – along Wilford Road for a week in October – for power cabling work to connect up the Bloor Homes ‘Fairham Green’ development. On Friday 8th October it was announced this work has over-run*.
